Hey DJ's!
Welcome to my channel. Here you will find a variety of DJ related videos on several topics including tips, tricks, music, demos, mobile, club, reviews, gig logs, artist interviews & the occasional "rant" here & there as well.
Although I have been a DJ since 1984, I still don't have all the answers and reserve the right to change my opinions and learn as I go.
In April of 2011, I had a massive stroke that took the entire right side of my body. Today, I am still recovering & improving but refuse to let it slow me down. I'm still gigging, traveling the world & learning new ways to compensate for any physical shortcomings I may have to deal with-DJ related or otherwise. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know!

My Jetpack Glide System Pack-Up For VJing At The Casino
enjoy brother
I was doing a class reunion and the first half of the evening, everyone danced. Then the second half, everyone was at tables in conversations which is understandable but everyone was still enjoying the music and at the end of the evening I had nothing but praise from everyone about the music.
Dance music hasn’t changed in the last 30 years . There’s way too much quantity from the likes of Juno download and Trax source and it’s all the same. I’ve been a D. J since 1977 when I was 15 and been with dance music all my life but seriously there needs to be a dance music revolution. Producers that aren’t afraid to be more experimental and talented in the song writing area.
im 16 (soon 17) and im restoring a early 80s VW Golf MK2 my dad got it for me as a car to learn on how to fix cars i have upgraded radio in it from Tape Deck to Pioneer Bluetooth head unit recently Distributor went out and i need to replace it advantage is that car is hella popular where i live so parts are cheap as hell to find and OEM too just go to junkyard
The halogen Looks more Natural. The led has a very white Spot in the middle
I like to make my own remixes but I don’t share or put them up anywhere it’s my work
lol me too. Mocking the open mouth thumbnails
Great advice! It was great running into you at Marquee in the Blizzard Lighting Showroom.
5 months later, how are you liking the DDJ800?
Spot on Brian. Spoken from experience. Some of these younger Djs make it more about them rather than the client and the people in front of them. Sure, in a club, be as risqué as you want, try things, new mixes & combo’s and yes at private events too ONCE you’ve given them their songs and hits early on. It means they know YOU know what you’re doing. 🙌
It’s about timing more than anything. If you play music and genres in sets you’ll have success, you can’t bounce around and keep things happening on the dance floor
I don't use any kind of lists, DJ'ing and playing the right tracks at the right time just cones with experience, if you do not get a ton of requests you are doing something right ! We are all different DJ's in our own style and microphone techniques working the room reading the crowd I guess
I'm trying to power my fire 10 tablet off the power button won't power off
The problem with these controllers imho is repairability. If you order a used piece and it has a bad fader, can you get in and replace it without tearing the entire thing apart and having to desolder it from the mainboard? By and large , controllers look disposable to me.
All DJs ARE NOT playing the same 200 songs...but lazy, poser, bottom feeder hacks are!
What works for one DJ may not work for another. Remember every crowd/event is different. But there are few songs that usually get people going the Cupid Shuffle, Cotton Eyed Joe, Cha Cha Slide, Macarena, Electric Boogie, YMCA, and now Mambo Number 5 is making a comeback. I don’t play them consecutively I mix them in with other song. To finish you have to throw some songs out there that clear 80 to 90%% so the guest can take a break for a drink, remember the more they Drink the more they Dance!! Great Video @briansredd
Enjoyed your video! Very helpful
I did a gig log on this topic but I think you articulated it better.
I have crate called "curve ball". It consist of many genres of generally remixes of bangers. I'll throw out a curve ball here and there and get a good crowd response.
I've got a great list this evening of some tracks I haven't played for so long, be refreshing to play different stuff tonight. 🙌🏼
I'm 57 vinyl dj throwing parties in Cape Town and always love the wisdom coming out of this man's mouth
You always make sense, Brian! Great advice!
I’ve cleared so many dance floors in the past haha but man if I didn’t drop that odd track I would never know.
Hey DJs, get away from using the same crates and playlists. Just get their are play from track to track: you’ll enjoy it so much more. You’ll enjoy the forgotten gene that will pop into your mind at the right point.
If a Dj is doing through job right, they will notice the differences between 1 ev not to the next. But the problem is that DJs have gotten lazy and depend on crates way too much. You should see how some lose their minds when they get a DO NOT PLAY list of a dozen or 2 of their Go2 songs. You’d sweat that the bride has chopped off their nuts and taken away their manhood. DJs need to start looking at the vibe that the clients are trying to create. If a client wants to not hear the chicken dance, YMCA and the Cupid shuffle, we can take away the fact that line dances are off for the night.
Karaoke is the best. You get to see raw talent which is good, and you get see crappy talent, which is funnt. It's a win win.
Great advice. I also think that beatmixing style has a lot to do with how your dance floors react and opens up more opportunities for those 'chance' songs you throw in. If I couldn't mix, I'd have to completely rethink how to be creative. Mixing samples, choruses, looping, slamming, beat drops, using stems, remixes, sound effects, so many things you can do to get creative. That's how I do it. It also allows me to save the best songs for later in the night. I have a lot of bride & grooms that request for me to play the good stuff late, as they can be doing pictures, desserts, faux exits and such. Just my take, but good advice all around.
There are more than 200 good songs, to be sure. I have been building a crate with the Top 200 list for almost 25 years. I keep track of the songs that fall off the list too. I have about 300 tracks that have come and gone. Most are still good dance tracks - and a bit of a surprise for young(er) audiences. I have never gone wrong playing Top40 tracks from the years when the B&G were 15-25 years old. There is a LOT of good music in any decade. I certainly have my favorites…and I do tend to play those tracks if left to my own devices.
I've never considered what I play as a factor in separating myself from the pack since everyone has access to the same songs. I do mostly weddings, and the clients provide me with a playlist. Not much room for me to take risks & be musically creative.
Nailed it!!! Take a chance, and find some gems that are forgotten and throw them on and be amazed. Keep the energy up there and they will enjoy the dance. I love remixed music with a great beat that people have never heard that version. Great Work, Brian!!!
Your comment is absolutly correct. As a former mobile DJ , i loved throwing the long forgotten tunes of the past.Especially the AM gold of the seventies
This is great advice, I am just starting to get into the wedding DJ business after being the guy who would DJ at friends parties for 100 bucks. These videos are quite helpful!
I remember the school dance you did and packed the floor with “Shannon” by Henry Gross!
EV 8 the best. Alie Sherlock uses an EV 8 .It has a built in Dynacord Pre amp and amplifier inside .
Does this work with the cans?
I'm so jealous
You are an inspiration Brian. Love from 🇬🇧 (I had a stroke 5 months ago)
Thank you, greatly appreciate the information. I will look into it.
17 and restoring a 58 Plymouth Belvedere. Wish me luck :)
I remember seeing one of these but it was a dual cylinder unit, in a bar back in the 80s, in Panama City FL. Many years later, there was a double unit for sale on ebay, but I was outbid at the last minute. I was totally bummed. These lights make the coolest effect and work with all music. Constant moving and really Great!!! I would buy one if ADJ made it again!!!!

Good stuff
Ya, I'm a events dj myself & I believe that Technology today, (smartphones, tablets, virtual assistants, laptops and portable speakers with access to Spotify, etc.) is taking away our ability to work, which sucks. :( I currently do 1-2 events a year, but I would love to do more. :(
This is outstanding! It actually works and is real guys!!! Go check it out, I just signed up and printed a CoI in minutes. Thank you so much!
As not only a DJ but someone who attends weddings etc...THANK YOU Brian. I actively dread going to weddings. I look forward to seeing friends and relative I don't often get to see, but hate that we cannot even hear one another right across the table the whole night. Don't get me wrong, I am a dancer. I can dance to jazz, hip hop, all the ballroom dances, all the swing dances, all the country dances, freestyle, line... I go dancing sometimes 2-3 times a week. I love it. Social events are totally different from when I DJ a dance event, where dancers come specifically to dance, and I'd best not empty that floor! But when I haven't seen my great aunts and uncles in over a year...and they are getting older, and who knows when or even IF I will see them again, I want to hear what they are telling me. To be with people you care about and then be denied the chance to visit with them because some arrogant DJ feels like the night is about them showing how loud they can make the music and being sure to cover over any conversation instead of...you know...creating an environment for the guests comfort and enjoyment. The fact is a very large portion of the guests hate when the DJ does this stuff, and they do often leave early because of it. Especially the older hearing impaired who may no longer be ABLE to dance...and are forced to sit there, unable to even converse. Just a little lower dB will still engage the dancers and yet give people a chance to connect...and when they have caught up with everyone...they WILL get up and dance. This is why I follow and absolutely love your work Brian. You speak the truth. I just hope a few DJ's have their headphones turned up for this one.
When you charge up the battery Does the switch have to be turned on or off when you plug it in to the electric the instruction book doesn't tell me that
I be seen this before .big power . didn't do a brake job .I always tell people ..hay look at my engine .lots of money in it .I say did you do the brakes brakes ...aw....no ...
my first ever event i djed was for the middle schoolers when i was in high school. this was the friday before hurricane sandy was scheduled to hit asbury park. a town thats about 20 miles south of where i went to high school. I wasnt expecting much out of the dance, as i was very, very new to DJing, but they really didnt want to dance too much. i think all they wanted to dance to was gangnam style. i probably couldve played it 3 times and they wouldve been happy. but they were socializing. i didnt see any phones out, nobody seemed bored, they were just chatting in social circles in the back. i think they also had movies playing on the projector, too without the audio, but i wasnt super disappointed with that.
This is on par for club work too as you should know because it’s all about the figures at the end of the night to the owner/manager who hired you. As long as bar sales are happening, that’s the bottom line.
On dance nights we used to every so often deliberately play a 'not so great' pick so people would get a little bored and hit the bar for drinks. The owners and barkeepers appreciated that.
@@nanettesulik4196 That's one way. Another way is just playing a different genre type, still a good song or two, as to get other folks on the dance floor while the ones exiting the floor go to the bar.
@@RunTFC Yeah, we eventually figured that out also...lol
I have done many events where hardly anyone danced, however if you look around the tables people are tapping there feet on the floor and there fingers on the tables. If they want to dance they will just do your best and at the end of such events I have had people thank me for a great evening and been told "You have played some great music tonight' and this video is a good lesson to all new aspiring DJ's just because people do not dance it does not mean they are not enjoying themselves. I have 2 Chauvet gigbars and if the night is kind of quiet I turn off the strobe lights on them in fact I dont like them, I also have no lasers on and put the gigbars on 'Fade' which makes them slowly cycle through the colours, if people start to dance I will switch the lighting on to sound active and if it really livens up I will turn on the lasers. You are right lighting plays a big part to create the right atmosphere, if I play slow music at the end of the night I turn all the lighting to a slow fade and turn off anything like strobes and laser lights and moving head lights, there is far far more to breen a good mobile DJ then just pressing the Play button, a great video.
